Hi,

Shauna Gough (formerly Neaville) asked me to post the following invitation to a retirement party being held to honor Judy Swiger's 34 years as a teacher and head of the drama department (not sure if that's the correct wording, but you get the idea).

Even if you can't attend the event, there are still ways you can wish Judy well and/or let her know the impact she had on you. Feel free to post your thoughts, well wishes, and comments here in this message board, as well!

Thanks Judy for the generations of effective drama instruction. You have planted the seed of creativity is so many young adults. In an age of high stakes testing and advanced placement classes. I am sure kids just love to be appreciated as creative artists in your class. You will be missed.

P.S. How politically correct was the AUNT JO-MIME-a theme?

Post the pictures. I will be 200 miles north.

By the way Judy, for Spring Break 2007, I took my family to Los Angeles and we were extras in the shooting of Will Ferrell's "Semi Pro" movie coming out next year 2008. Look for a wild running man during the BEAR WRESTLING SCENE...although I might end up on the cutting room floor:).

I know you said she's not supposed to read this, but sharing is fun, so what the heck!
I was in the drama club my 4 years of high school, was inducted into the International Thespian Society, went on a drama club trip to New York during my senior spring break in '97, which was so awesome, and was part of the cast from MSHS that performed at Theatre Fest at U of I senior year as well. I also dated her son for about all of my junior year, so I got to know Judy outside of school. Being involved in the arts during an important time of development and change as a teen was so beneficial to me. I was exposed to different people, ideas, music, and movies than I would have been had I not been involved. It gave me a chance to have fun and be silly without the worry of looking "cool" or getting hung up on what people thought about me. It gave me such confidence, to be in front of people and do something I was proud of. I remember early on Judy showing me (us in a class or during rehersals) the ropes and teaching the basics, then letting me develop the character and tweak it to make it unique. Sure she would get ticked at us during rehersal when we were squirrely and not focusing, but that's what an instructor is supposed to do, and Judy did it very well. If I hadn't been involved in drama (or music at MSHS for that matter), I would be a different person today, and that would make me sad because I'm so happy with how I turned out, and I have Judy to thank for that.
